How to unclog an Epson 3000 printer

Method 1

Your first line of attack is of course, via the Epson Utility that is accessible through the Epson driver.

You should run the Head Cleaning cycle several times, alternating with Nozzle Check to see
if the print head is becoming unclogged. Try printing large patches of cyan, magenta, yellow and black color which fills an entire sheet of paper. (or just the color that remains clogged). However, the obviousness of this probably means you have come here for more serious methods. The following method is considered dangerous by Epson who recommends packing your printer and sending it to them for service.

Method 2

1 Turn the printer on

2 Pull the cartridges out form LEFT to RIGHT one by one until all the red ink out lights go on.

3 Turn the printer off, and it will empty the reservoirs and ink lines

4 Turn the printer on.

5 Push the cartridges firmly back in from LEFT to RIGHT and let the printer cycle through. This will refill the reservoirs and ink lines. The action may loosen the clog.

BE WARNED THAT PULLING CARTRIDGES RESETS THE DROPLET COUNT AND WILL RETURN THE CARTRIDGE TO 100%% FULL.

Method 3

Sometimes no amount of Head Cleaning cycles can unclog a print head. I recommend
the following technique. The print head rests on cleaning pads that are made of a felt
like material. These should be dampened with a few drops of Windex. To do this you
must physically move the heads out of position, or use whatever feature on your Epson
allows the heads to move away from their resting position. The below photo shows
Windex being dropped on the pads of an Epson 3000.

The print head should be moved back into position. If you do it physically, you can rub
the head back and forth gently. Let is sit on the Windex dampened pads for about 10
minutes before initiating another series of Head Cleaning cycles and Nozzle checks.
